We're staying home this weekend as there is just wayyyyy too much work to do around here. Rick is working on the kitchen as I type this (hooo yahh!) and I'll have pictures of the kitchen up tonight or tomorrow. All but one cabinet is finished and we just have to get the doors up. He is installing temporary counter tops today, these are made of laminate and will do until we order the new counter top to replace it. I was tired of preparing meals on three feet of counter space!
Still to come: tile work, electrical rewiring, some type of stone counter tops (we haven't decided which type) and the doors. Oh, and the sink.
Also...this morning, we loaded up the truck with free mulch available at a county park nearby. Although you can get free mulch from just about any tree trimming service, I like the county version because it has composted much better and it's more finely chopped up, which is good for working into the soil. I'm tackling our side yard and back yard this weekend... I've decided to tear out what is left of the weeds lawn and plant a total Xeriscaped back yard. I'm absolutely sick of fighting the lawn!
Here's a real good company if you'e into Xeriscaping. High Country Gardens out in New Mexico, land of the heat and relentless sun. They have some awesome Xerispace garden plans if you're interested. Lowes just sent me a coupon for $10. off of any project $25 or more, so I'm heading over there right now to comparison shop. I'll definitely post pictures of this project as it moves along. With temperatures hovering at ninety-something degrees, I'll be working on it most mornings and evenings instead.
Sam is at the beach soaking up the rays, that is... if they can find a parking place. She is already brown as all get out. I rub sunscreen on her before she left and I still smell like coconut.
Britt is out on a friend's boat with a group of girls, their dad is pulling them along on one of those big tube rafts. I hope she doesn't go flying off, she's so light.
We'll take a break at some point to veg out and swim in the pool. I hope you all are having a real good weekend!!
Sounds like your kitchen project is on about the same track as ours. Happy projecting but hope you get some fun time in as well! :)

Make sure you take time to relax, darlin' ... never talked to an old person and heard them say "Dang, I wish I'd worked harder!"
And one day you must do a post explaining what Xeriscaping is ...

Good luck, powerwashing pre-exterior staining here. Got make hay while the borrowed powerwasher shines!
I don't know if you should explain Xeriscaping to Nils, ...such a dry subject.

All the best on the kitchen project. Looking forward to the photos. And yes, please explain that Xeriscaping....sounds interesting. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. (I'm playing catch-up, after being gone)

Can't wait to see the photos of your new kitchen. I also love the garden plans. I've been turning my front yard into more of a natural area bit by bit. The sun just kills the grass without shade so why not create some shade and have less grass to mow and water right?

The kitchen sounds like it's coming along just fine...but you sound sooo busy.
I learned about Xeriscaping from MrsGreenThumb who teaches it in Las Vegas. Her link is on my sidebar.
