When Tiffiany Olson and her boyfriend died in a motorcycle accident a year ago, it was hours before her mother found out about her death because law enforcement didn't have emergency contact information on her. Her mother called several hospitals, only to find out from a friend where she was.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper met her in the parking lot of Manatee Memorial Hospital, handed her a bag with some of Tiffiany's belongings, and told her Tiffiany's body was already at the medical examiner's office. Before that, she searched every hospital in Manatee County after a friend, not emergency officials, told her about the accident.
Now, Olson wants to prevent the way she learned about her daughter's death from happening to others.
Olson worked with the Department of Motor Vehicles and State Rep. Bill Galvano so Florida drivers can enter personal contact information intothe DMV system.
Once drivers enter the information, law enforcement officers can access it within seconds by entering a driver's license number into their computers.
The contact information could also help in cases where the driver or passenger is too badly hurt to get help from relatives.
Click here for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to enter your Emergency contact information. The information is private and available only to law enforcement officials.
